The Butterfly room is for children aged 2-5yrs old. We strongly encourage learning through play and each day provide activities which cover the six stages of learning. The room is friendly and welcoming with a carpet area for toys, jigsaws and role-play, a messy area for creative play and an upstairs area, which includes a cosy book corner and ICT equipment. We have an outside area that provides the children with fresh air and a space in which they can enjoy activities such as sand or water play.
We are able to use the school playground and field freely and the children have many opportunities to go on walks around the village or trips to the park. To ensure the children’s safety, we have reflective jackets for them to wear when out and about and always encourage road safety.
During the day the children are offered morning and afternoon snack, a home cooked dinner, tea and extra drinks at any time during the day. Snack is usually available on the table for about an hour, so each child can choose when they would like to eat. Children who feel confident enough may pour their own drink or spread their own butter on toast etc. We use meal times to promote good hygiene and table manners.
Twice during the day we do circle time, where all the children come together as a group. We encourage them to participate in activities such as singing, news time, musical instruments or the weather chart. We also take this time to do name recognition using name cards for each child to find. During some circle times we hand out achievement stars to a few children at a time. These are stars parents may take home and write for their child to bring back to nursery and share their progress, big or small, with their friends. It’s a great way in which we like to show the children praise.
